HELPING STUDENTS MAKE CHOICES
STEVE IRVIN presented to Club members an overview of the counseling and guidance program provided to Treynor elementary and high school students. IRVIN described programs he has set up for the transition of students from elementary to high school and from high school to postsecondary education, or to military, or to the work force. According to IRVIN, the transition from elementary to high school is a new experience and a critical time in the development of youth. He noted that the state requires an 8th grader to prepare a four year plan of education. IRVIN participates in planning, testing, orientation, and career exploration with each student as they obtain their basic education in the Treynor schools. IRVIN noted that a high percentage of Treynor high school graduates go on for college education. Treynor Schools are fortunate to have the services of a full time guidance counselor to help each youth his reach his best potential.
